My brother got beaten and robbed yesterday while peacefully minding his business and walking to his car in Northeast Washington. The two black assailants apparently weren’t satisfied with the amount of cash he was carrying in his wallet so they pummeled him into to the ground and kicked his head against the concrete, thus crushing his glasses and leaving severe bruises on his forehead. As if that weren’t bad enough, they separated his arm from its socket! He spent all evening in the hospital getting his shoulder put back in!
Now he is left with no money and no glasses and probably a huge hospital bill. They even took both of his cell phones! Well, at least he left with the most important thing intact – his life!
Last I checked, owning a handgun is prohibited in the District. Sounds a bit unconstitutional to me. Too bad for others who will not be able to defend their lives against the scum sucking dregs of society in a city where the homicide rate is 30 per 100,000 people.

That is really scary your poor brother.

I ratted my brother out to my mother. What’s the worse she can do? Bitch some more? She went over there to check on him and said his head is the size of a watermelon, not to mention his eyes are swollen shut and his arm is in a sling.
I’m worried that he has brain swelling and that he may not know it. This could be grave and serious.
January 25, 2008 at 10:45 pm |
Oh jeez. He should probably go back to the ER.
January 25, 2008 at 10:59 pm |
He doesn’t want to. I should offer to pick him up and have him sleep in the guest bedroom so I can watch over him. Jesus. I’m never getting back to the gym.
January 25, 2008 at 11:58 pm |
Well, if they thought he had brain swelling they would not have released him right? Is he concussed?
January 26, 2008 at 2:52 am |
I have no idea if he is concussed….But maybe I’m being overly sensitive and paranoid about his swollen watermelon head. I keep thinking it could swell despite a clear MRI…
January 26, 2008 at 5:01 am |
well, craniums do not really swell, probably it is facial swelling from getting his face smacked into concrete. Jeez, poor guy.

They take head injuries VERY seriously, so it’s probably just superficial, if spectacular. I’m so sorry to hear about this, and the LAST thing anyone needs at a time like that are worries about bills.
But actually, it’s GOOD he didn’t have a gun. They might have shot him with it.

I lived in the DC area for six years, went to college there. Did you know that the District of Columbia has its own constitution and not just laws? To me that’s pretty scary. Hope your brother’s ok.
January 26, 2008 at 11:53 am |
Yeah, knowing your brother, it’s good he didn’t have a gun. Like Raincoaster said, they probably would have taken it from him and shot him with it. Northeast can be a very rough place.
January 26, 2008 at 12:22 pm |
Thank you for your well wishes. I wasn’t thinking of a gun for my brother, I was thinking of the other people who might not be so lucky to get away with their lives.
Almitra, that is disconcerting. I was just reading that crime there is going back up…
January 26, 2008 at 12:24 pm |
Oh my god!!!!!!! What is wrong with people? He needs a big scary dog!
January 26, 2008 at 2:17 pm |
It’s the hood. Criminality is just a way of life with some people. It used to be worse.

One word: Taser!
January 26, 2008 at 8:26 pm |
Just caught this even though its been here a few days now.
I’ve never owned a gun only because of my past. If I ever fall of the wagon again I dont want one around. I’ve got a lot of sobriety, but a lot of respect for the disease. But you’re right about gun ownership, that does sound a lot unconstitutional. But only because its DC they’re probably worried about multiple politicians getting shot. You can thank the moonbats for that one. Thank god these guys didnt have guns. But if they did it would only seem fair that if punks can have guns illegaly , we should at least be able to have them legally.
I’ll drop a note in Gods box for him and wish you both well.

D.C.’s gun control laws are crazy restrictive and the libertarian in me (and indeed many others) hopes to see the matter settled soon but it’s off to a rocky start. (more info at dcguncase.com)

I hope your brother recovers wholly and soon.

Senseless crime. And it’s everywhere. Last summer two innocents were shot and killed in a popular neighborhood of Minneapolis. It used to be wrong place wrong time. Now it’s anyplace, wrong time.

A friend of mine was shot in DC but because he was illegal (he was Hungarian) he didn’t go to the doctor and instead went straight home to watch tv! Until blood started pouring from his mouth.
He was insane because I don’t think it’s a smart idea to charge at someone pointing a gun in your face.
A dog is not a bad idea but my brother is too lazy and too broke to take care of anyone else – human or animal.
January 27, 2008 at 7:10 pm |
A dog is a huge responsibility. Those who treat that lightly or just plain neglect their animals gain my undying rancor.
January 28, 2008 at 10:15 am |
Great Danes work well. They have a very even temperment. But know who their human partners are very well. And will protect them.
When I walk Ruby people cross the street when they see us coming. Little do they know she would lick them to death. But dont raise your hand to me, you’ll lose it.
Ita a shame that your brother doesnt sound like a good candidate for ownership.
Then again, its hard to take a dog with you everywhere you go. Especially the larger ones.
Chihuahuas in back packs dont cut it.

Dogs are family. Not accessories. They have a big plus if you can put the time in though. No one ever shot anyone with their own dog.
January 28, 2008 at 5:17 pm |
Good point, Max.
January 29, 2008 at 12:53 am |
No one ever shot anyone with their own dog?
C,mon
January 30, 2008 at 1:57 pm |
Sorry to hear about that. Perhaps their karmic punishment involves a bad case of hemorroids, or shiting in their pants in public, something painful and humiliating.
January 30, 2008 at 5:51 pm |
I would hope karma would rear an uglier head.
